Brazil's grain production will increase by 23% in less than 10 years

A research report released by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture on the 14th predicted that by 2021, the country’s annual grain output will increase by 23% from the current level, and it will have the ability to compete with the United States for the world’s largest grain exporter.

The report entitled "Brazil Agriculture Forecast 2011-2021" said that after 10 years, Brazil's grain production will increase from 142.9 million tons in 2010 to 175.8 million tons in 2021. Expanding the planting area and increasing labor productivity will become the main driving force for Brazil to increase grain production. Among them, the grain planting area will increase by 9.5% in the next 10 years, from the current 49.2 million hectares to 51.79 million hectares.

In addition to statistics on major crops such as corn, rice, wheat, soybeans, and beans, Brazil’s grain production includes cotton, peanuts, and sunflowers. The research report predicts that by 2021, soybean production will increase by 25.9%, from the current 68 million tons to 86.5 million tons; corn will also increase production by 23.8% from 52.9 million tons to 65.5 million tons.

The report shows that Brazil’s cotton production will increase by 47.8% in the next decade, from 1.2 million tons in 2010 to 2.51 million tons. In addition, total food-related beef, chicken, and pork production will also increase by 27%, from the current 24.6 million tons to 31.2 million tons.

Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture Wagner Rossi said at the report’s press conference that as the momentum of increased food production grows stronger, Brazil will have the ability to compete with the United States for the world’s largest grain exporter, contributing to safeguarding global food security.
