On August 1, 2008, the Cummins Foundation donated RMB 2 million to the earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan through the World Vision China Office for construction of the Honghua Foreign Language School in Guanghan City.

The "5.12" earthquake indiscriminately attacked Sichuan, the land of abundance, and the school was one of the institutions that suffered heavy losses. Mamu Primary School, Southeast Central School and Wanfu Middle School in Guanghan City were seriously damaged. After the earthquake, the Guanghan City government plans to merge the three schools and build a new school, the Honghua Foreign Language School, on the basis of the original Mamu Primary School to meet the needs of children around the school. At the critical moment when the Guanghan City government urgently needed funds to build schools, Cummins and Sichuan Honghua jointly donated funds.

The RMB 2 million donated by Cummins came from the equivalent donations made by the Cummins Foundation on the basis of “5·12” donations made by employees worldwide. As of the end of July, Cummins, together with its branch offices and joint ventures in China, has donated more than RMB 9 million in donations to Sichuan earthquake-stricken areas. The total donations from employee donations and the Cummins Foundation totaled more than RMB 4.2 million, and the company’s cash donation amounted to RMB 2.9 million. Free spare parts and maintenance service support and donated generator sets are worth more than 2 million yuan.

John Watkins, chairman and chief executive officer of Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd., said at the donation ceremony: “Like our products provide the user with the same motivation, we sincerely hope that Cummins will be able to Development makes every effort to provide a good learning environment. I sincerely hope that every student can study hard and make progress every day. You are the 'engine' for the future of Guanghan, Sichuan, and even China as a whole!"

In a speech, Yang Bo, secretary of the Guanghan Municipal Party Committee and director of the Municipal People’s Congress, said that donating funds to build schools is a moral gesture for the society and thanked Cummins, Honghua and other donation companies for their contribution to the development of Guanghan education.

This time, Cummins partnered with business partner Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd. to jointly build Guanghan Honghua Foreign Language School. Among them, Sichuan Honghua donated 13 million yuan, the school was named "Honghua"; Cummings Foundation donated 2 million yuan, and the school will have a building or playground named after Cummins.

Cummins and World Vision are long-term partners. World Vision was established in 1950. It is an international relief and development agency dedicated to helping people in poverty and need around the world, paying particular attention to children's growth.
