How is the shape and size of the wellbore section determined?

The shape of the section depends on the purpose of the wellbore, the nature of the rock and the service life of the wellbore. Most common are round and rectangular. The rectangular section of the well is mostly supported by wood, which has poor resistance to ground pressure. It is generally excavated in a hard rock formation with a service life of less than 15 years and a small section. The shaft with circular cross section is generally supported by stone or concrete. The well wall has a large ground pressure capacity and water sealing capacity. It can adapt to complex geological conditions and the service life is above 15-20a.

The shape and structure of the shaft section of the shaft is shown in Figure 1.

The size of the shaft section is determined by the type, size and number of lifting containers in the wellbore and their arrangement, the arrangement of the various equipments and their safety clearances, the dimensions between the ladders and the cables. The air flow rate through the wellbore should not exceed the safety regulations. After determining the net section, plus the area occupied by the bracket, the area of the wellbore tunneling section is obtained.
