Barn fire in Mettawa, 1-9-18

On Monday afternoon, January 9, 2018, firefighters from Libertyville and neighboring departments responded to a serious barn fire at 14060 Old School Road in Mettawa. The incident began when Countryside Chief 4100 arrived first on scene and confirmed a working fire. Fire companies quickly connected to a hydrant across the street, managing to protect nearby structures from the flames. Unfortunately, the four-stall barn was completely destroyed. While the horses managed to escape, some smaller animals were lost in the blaze. The alarm was later upgraded to a Box Alarm, and the full box assignment was completed shortly after. At the scene, multiple units were deployed, including two engines, a quint, an ambulance, and a battalion chief from Libertyville. Additional support came from fire departments in Countryside, Knollwood, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, and Wauconda. A Lincolnshire-Riverwoods squad also arrived, along with chiefs from Countryside, Lake Forest, Mundelein, and Libertyville. The coordinated response helped prevent further damage and ensured the safety of those involved. Numerous photos captured the scene, showing firefighters working hard to control the fire, using hoses, breaking doors, and responding swiftly. The images were taken by Jeff Rudolph and Larry Shapiro, with more photos available at Shapirophotography.net. This event highlights the importance of quick response and teamwork in emergency situations.
