On Saturday morning, September 9, 2017, just before 6:30 a.m., the Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of smoke coming from a home at 96 University Drive. A passerby had alerted authorities, prompting an immediate response. Police officers were the first to arrive and began ringing the doorbell and knocking on the doors in an attempt to wake the homeowners.
Moments later, Arlington Heights Engine 4 and Buffalo Grove Tower 25 arrived on the scene. They quickly stretched a hose line to the front door and made entry after detecting heavy smoke coming from the second floor. Smoke was also visible on the first floor, and as the door was breached, thick smoke poured out from the front.
The incident was escalated to a Code 4 working fire, and two additional ambulances were dispatched after reports suggested that three people might be inside the house. Firefighters worked swiftly to control the blaze while searching for any possible occupants.
Neighbors later informed the police that the vehicles in the driveway did not belong to the homeowners, and their own car was missing. A thorough search confirmed that the only residents at the time were two cats. Despite the firefighters' efforts to resuscitate the animals, both did not survive the fire.
The fire caused significant damage to the structure, and emergency crews worked for several hours to fully extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Drill Bits
Drill bits are cutting tools used to remove material to create holes, almost always of circular cross-section. Drill bits come in many sizes and shapes and can create different kinds of holes in many different materials. In order to create holes drill bits are usually attached to a drill, which powers them to cut through the workpiece, typically by rotation. The drill will grasp the upper end of a bit called the shank in the chuck.
Drill bits come in standard sizes, described in the drill bit sizes article. A comprehensive drill bit and tap size chart lists metric and imperial sized drill bits alongside the required screw tap sizes. There are also certain specialized drill bits that can create holes with a non-circular cross-section.
