Firefighters from Libertyville Fire Department, along with automatic-aid companies, responded to a fire at 1470 Greenbriar Drive in Green Oaks just after 1:00 AM. A homeowner was awakened by a smoke alarm and noticed a van outside on fire that had begun spreading to the attached garage. The first arriving engine unit reported flames coming through the roof of the garage and quickly initiated an attack using their deck gun. Once the tank water was depleted, a tanker arrived to support the engine, and a hand line was deployed into the scene.
A shuttle system was established, with successive tankers continuously supplying water to the Libertyville tanker, which in turn supported the engine working in the driveway. As the situation escalated, the alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm, bringing additional tankers to the area, which lacks hydrants. Despite significant damage to the garage and its contents, the fire did not spread to the main house. The incident was fully under control about an hour later, and crews began to disperse.
The photos capture the intense efforts of firefighters as they worked through the night, battling the blaze under challenging conditions. Several images show the use of large fire engines equipped with light towers, as well as the coordination between tankers and engine units during the operation. One image highlights the charred remains of the van that initially caught fire, while others depict the aftermath of the fire and the destruction of the attached garage.
The firefighters were seen working in the rain, demonstrating their dedication and professionalism. For more visuals from this incident, visit shapirophotography.net.
