From the Mendota Fire Department:
On Monday, the 14th, the Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments, along with the Mendota Police Department, responded to a large pallet fire located just south of Mendota. Upon arrival, the first responders encountered an enormous fire consisting of approximately 8,000 wooden pallets, which was extremely hot and intense. A MABAS box alarm was immediately requested, escalating to a third alarm. Strong northerly winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, making it even more challenging to control. Firefighters worked quickly to protect nearby structures and prevent the fire from spreading further. One firefighter was overcome by the extreme heat and was taken to Saint Paul Medical Center for evaluation. Fortunately, they were released later that evening. Everyone involved performed exceptionally well under very difficult conditions. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the personnel from Mendota and Troy Grove, as well as those from LaSalle, Peru, Earlville, Amboy, Sublette, LaMoille, Utica, Cherry, West Brooklyn, Paw Paw, Wallace, Shabbona, Leland, Lee, 10/33 amb, ISP District 17, and the dispatchers from Mendota, ValCom, and Ottawa MABAS Division 25. I also want to thank ComEd for their support. It's reassuring to have such dedicated and professional individuals in our community who can be relied upon during emergencies.
