Pakistan’s Tariff Commission received an application from Pakistan’s domestic industry for an anti-dumping investigation of imported polyester fibers from China. It will decide whether to file a case and initiate an investigation procedure within 45 days.
According to the report of the Ministry of Commerce website on July 28, the Pakistani Tariff Commission recently received applications from relevant domestic Pakistani industries to require anti-dumping investigations of polyester fibers imported from China (Polyester StapleFibre, Pakistani Customs Tariff Number). According to the relevant provisions of the anti-dumping law of Pakistan, the committee will review the authenticity and validity of the application materials and decide whether to initiate the investigation and initiate investigation procedures within 45 days.
According to statistics from China Customs, in 2007, the total value of China’s exports to Pakistan was approximately US$60 million, accounting for 15% of China’s total global exports. This is the first anti-dumping case filed by Pakistan's domestic industry for China since 2007.
So far, Pakistan has put forward safeguard measures or anti-dumping investigations on five Chinese products, namely footwear, calcium carbide, pre-heat-resistant aluminum plates, formaldehyde resins and ceramic tiles. The first three products did not enter the legal process, while formaldehyde resins and ceramic tiles were found to be dumped at the final ruling, and anti-dumping duties were imposed on July 18, 2005 and November 30, 2006 for a period of five years.
