On April 13, 2019, the 8th International Symposium on Reliability Technology for Internal Combustion Engines was held in Beijing. This academic event is hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability. It is intended to discuss the basic theory of internal combustion engine reliability and key common technology research with relevant personnel in the domestic internal combustion engine industry, promote chain innovation in the internal combustion engine industry, and promote the reliability technology advancement of China's internal combustion engines. It is understood that the International Symposium on Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines has been held for eight consecutive years. This year, it attracted more than 1,000 participants, indicating that the construction of the State Key Laboratory of Reliability of Weichai Internal Combustion Engines was successful. In this regard, Tan Xuguang, chairman of Weichai Group, said: "First of all, the State Key Laboratory of Reliability of Weichai Internal Combustion Engines is for the whole industry, not closed. If it is not closed for the whole industry, there will be no everyone today. Secondly, for many years, Weichai has used the platform of the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability to implement open cooperation at home and abroad, which has played a very good role in promoting and implementing a good innovation model. Third, the results created by this platform are shared with the whole industry, not for which company is monopolized, so it has been recognized by everyone."

For the reliability of internal combustion engines, Weichai always regards it as the top priority in product development and manufacturing. The technology, without these three, a company will not do well."

At present, the quality of domestic internal combustion engines has been greatly improved compared with the previous ones. Especially in the upcoming sixth phase of the country, the quality of domestic engines will also increase, but there is still a gap compared with Europe and the United States. "China's internal combustion engine enterprises are still far from the European and American countries, and domestic consumers' awareness of rights protection is not strong." Tan Jiguang introduced, "especially at the sixth stage of the country, there are requirements for emission warranty period and effective life period, and strengthened. OBD supervision, this is a qualitative leap in reliability requirements. Especially for high-speed logistics and trunk logistics vehicles, this is a milestone change for domestic enterprises. To become a production enterprise, it is necessary to take advantage of the opportunity of emission upgrading to build a high-quality, high-level powertrain and participate in global competition."

Not only that, but China's high-end engines still have short boards, especially high-end high-speed engines. Weichai is actively promoting products to the high end, especially in the integration of military and civilian, and hopes to achieve breakthroughs within 3-5 years. Tan Xuguang said: "The difference between us and foreign countries is very large, that is, reliability is not good. This is a core issue. We have already caught up with the powertrain of heavy commercial vehicles, but it is 1.5-1.8 million kilometers away from foreign countries. There is still a gap in no major repairs. I hope to catch up in 2-3 years. In particular, the requirements for the effective life of the vehicle emissions specified in the National Sixth Emissions Regulations are 7 years and 700,000 kilometers. I hope that the first step can be achieved first."

For the development of new energy, Tan Xuguang believes that new energy will become an important part of the future energy structure of the world, but not the only one. Diesel engines are irreplaceable for the expected 30-50 years. Tan Xuguang said: "For our country, it is unrealistic for new energy to go faster, but it is a retrogression. If this is a transitional period, both the logistics vehicle and the passenger car in the city can implement pure electric vehicles for conditions. If the mileage of a pure electric vehicle meets 500 kilometers, it can be used. However, this will also bring some challenges to the government. It is expected that there will be a long period of hybrid transition in the city. Heavy trucks cannot be used as new energy. Instead, it is a very good option to promote fuel cell engines for conditional areas. For our country, these structural adjustments can reduce our crude oil imports, which I think is completely necessary."
