On August 29, 2018, Weichai Group and Canada Westport Fuel System Company signed a technical cooperation agreement in Jinan, Shandong Province, and reached a series of cooperation on the most advanced technology of high-pressure direct injection (HPDI) technology natural gas engine. The two sides will jointly develop high-end natural gas engines. Promote the second generation of HPDI technology to achieve engineering in China.

According to the cooperation agreement, the HPDI technology of Canada Westport Fuel Systems will be applied to the Weichai Group's high-horsepower engine platform to meet China's national six emission standards. The introduction and cooperation of this technology can promote the thermal efficiency of the natural gas engine of Weichai from the current 38% to 45%, and it is expected to reach 50% in the future; the gas consumption will be reduced by more than 20% on the existing basis. The core technology and overall performance of Weichai natural gas engine will lead the Chinese gas power industry and take the lead in reaching the world advanced level.

In the future, Weichai Group and Xigang Fuel System Co., Ltd. will further cooperate on the next generation of HPDI technology, and jointly promote the localized production of the second generation HPDI key components in China, and supply HPDI key components to the world in the future.
