Mendota Fire Department news

From the Mendota Fire Department:

On Monday, the 14th, the Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments, along with the Mendota Police Department, responded to a large pallet fire located just south of Mendota. Upon arrival, the first responders were faced with an enormous and extremely hot fire involving approximately 8,000 wooden pallets. Due to the intensity of the fire, an immediate request was made for a MABAS box alarm, which escalated to a third alarm. Strong northerly winds contributed to the fire's rapid spread and increased its intensity. Firefighters quickly worked to protect nearby structures and prevent further fire spread. One firefighter was overcome by the extreme heat and was taken to Saint Paul Medical Center for evaluation. Fortunately, the firefighter was released later that evening. Everyone involved handled the situation with great professionalism and courage under very challenging conditions. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the personnel from Mendota and Troy Grove, as well as those from LaSalle, Peru, Earlville, Amboy, Sublette, LaMoille, Utica, Cherry, West Brooklyn, Paw Paw, Wallace, Shabbona, Leland, Lee, 10/33 ambulance, ISP District 17, and the dispatchers from Mendota, ValCom, and Ottawa MABAS Division 25. A special thank you also goes to ComEd for their support. It's reassuring to know we have such dedicated and reliable teams in our area when we need them most.
