According to foreign media reports, many large companies in the United States, including Toyota Motor, Amazon and Alcoa, are working hard to eliminate the impact of the Trump administration's trade policy and try to prevent the implementation of the new tariff policy. Major companies are trying to avoid a direct conflict with the Trump administration, but they also want to exert as much influence as possible to prevent the US government from tearing up trade agreements or imposing tariffs on a large number of imported products.

If the Trump administration decides to impose tariffs on the import of complete vehicles and auto parts, Toyota's branch in North America will suffer. This week, Toyota North American workers flew to Washington to hold a rally in front of the US Capitol. The head of the company also met with several US Congressional officials in recent weeks to discuss the potential impact of the new tariff policy.

For General Motors, if the Trump administration imposes auto tariffs or lets the US withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement, it will hurt it. In the past year, GM executives have held several meetings with relevant US government departments and Congress to express concerns about trade issues. The company said in June this year that the addition of tariffs will lead to its "national and domestic business shrinking."

According to people familiar with the matter, GM will hire Everett Eissenstat, former deputy director of the National Economic Council and the international economic affairs adviser who left the White House earlier this month, to take charge of GM's public policy work. GM told foreign media that the company had a vacant position but refused to disclose the identity of the employee who was about to be hired.

Certain companies that have been affected by the steel and aluminum import tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in June are also privately promoting tariff mitigation.

An unnamed person familiar with the matter said that the prices of the components used in Amazon's products and data centers were affected by tariff policies. Amazon is discussing industry-wide advertising and broader government lobbying. Amazon declined to comment.

The CEO of Alcoa told investors this week in a conference call that the company is "actively discussing" with the Trump administration, the US Department of Commerce, and lawmakers to cancel tariffs or obtain tariff exemptions from Alcan.

In addition, Alcoa also said that the company will generate up to $14 million in additional monthly expenses, mainly to pay tariffs on imported aluminum from Canada, its largest supplier.
