US Machine Tool Sales Increase Significantly

The American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) have released the latest statistics on U.S. metal processing machine tool orders. In July 2011, the number of U.S. metalworking machine orders was 2,053, which was 5.6% lower than the 2,175 units in the previous month, but increased by 41.6% from 1,450 units in July 2010. In July, the U.S. metal processing machine orders amounted to 507 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 7.3% from 473 million U.S. dollars in the previous month and an increase of 92.7% from 263 million U.S. dollars in July 2010.

Judging from the product category, in July, the orders for metal cutting machines and metal forming machines in the United States were 1,883 and 170, respectively. In July, orders for metal-cutting machine tools were US$402 million, a slight decrease of 1.8% from US$410 million in the previous month but an increase of 60.3% from US$251 million in July 2010; the order amount for metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was It was US$105 million, an increase of 66.8% from the US$32.72 million in the previous month, and a sharp increase of 758.8% from the US$12.18 million in July 2010. From January to July 2011, the US orders for metal cutting machine tools were US$2.647 billion, a year-on-year increase of 94.3%; the orders for metal forming and manufacturing machine tools were US$328 million, an increase of 214.8% year-on-year.

According to Peter Borden, chairman of AMTDA, according to current production rhythm, sales of US machine tools in 2011 will exceed previous expectations.
