Xinjiang: 1% area desert "solar" power supply 38% nationwide

If the annual power generation is calculated at 150 kWh/m2, using only 1% of the Desert Gobi in Xinjiang, the annual power generation will reach 1.5 trillion kWh, equivalent to 38% of China's total electricity consumption in 2010.

Yu Huan, deputy secretary-general of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region government, said that at present, the pace of the transfer of photovoltaic industry in Xinjiang has been accelerating. In 2010, the main business income of the photovoltaic industry exceeded 2 billion yuan, an increase of more than 100% year-on-year. There are nearly 10 well-known domestic and foreign enterprises. The family has the intention or has settled in Xinjiang.

However, taking a broad view of the country, there is still a certain gap in the photovoltaic industry in Xinjiang.

Photovoltaic power generation in Xinjiang accounts for only 3% of Xinjiang's total power generation in 2010. During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, Xinjiang will strive to seize the powerful opportunity for the country to vigorously develop renewable energy such as solar energy, and actively develop the photovoltaic industry, forecasting that by 2015 The photovoltaic power generation in the region will reach 1% of the total power generation, solve the problem of power consumption for the population without electricity in remote areas, and build Xinjiang into a bridgehead for the transfer of photovoltaic industry in China's western regions and the export of Chinese PV products to the west.
