In recent months, the acrylic fiber market has been influenced by the fluctuating trends of acrylonitrile, a key raw material both domestically and globally. As a result, overall market conditions remain challenging. The international spot price of acrylonitrile has dropped significantly, currently ranging between $70 and $85 per ton. Despite some Asian middlemen reducing their prices to between $1,360 and $1,365 (CFR Asia), downstream buyers are still holding onto price expectations around $1,330–$1,350 (CFR Asia). This has led to a fragmented pricing environment in the acrylonitrile market.
Domestically, ex-factory prices for acrylonitrile products range from 12,300 to 12,800 RMB per ton, with some regions seeing prices as high as 12,950–13,100 RMB. Imported acrylonitrile is generally priced between 12,800 and 13,000 RMB, with transaction prices hovering around 12,800–12,900 RMB.
The demand for acrylic staple fiber remains weak, especially as the Chinese New Year approaches. Many yarn manufacturers report low turnover, and transaction prices in the acrylic yarn market have continued to decline. For example, 32S–42S all-acrylic yarn is now priced between 22,000 and 22,500 RMB, while 15S–20S yarns are trading at 20,500–20,900 RMB. With weak demand and limited foreign orders, manufacturers are struggling to maintain stable production levels and pricing.
Sales of acrylic staple fiber have also been sluggish. Some companies have lowered prices to reduce inventory, leading to a more chaotic pricing situation in the market. In certain areas, such as East China, specific specifications have even seen transactions as low as 17,000 RMB. On the import side, 3D high-yield shortened fibers in Asia are trading at approximately $1.77–$1.79/kg (CIF China), while ordinary acrylic staple fiber is priced between $1.75–$1.77/kg (CIF China).
Regarding acrylic fiber tow, the market has shown some improvement due to a sharp decline in the import volume of tow bundles. Domestic manufacturers have experienced better sales, and some specifications are even facing shortages. For instance, Shanghai Petrochemical’s 3D tow is currently priced at 18,000 RMB. Near-acrylic tow has also seen strong demand, with transaction prices around $1.81/kg (CIF China). New Montessori products were quoted at $1.82/kg, while previous bonded warehouse stock was sold at $1.78/kg.
The acrylic wool tops market remains relatively stable, with prices for specifications like 6D×102mm and 3D×102mm staying steady between 18,800–18,900 RMB. Prices at Shanghai Jinshan and Jilin Qifeng are consistent, and Shanghai Jinyang’s product is also stable above 19,000 RMB.
In early December, domestic acrylic fiber prices showed a slight consolidation trend. For example, the price of 1.5D×38mm acrylic staple fiber dropped slightly from 17,800 RMB in late November to 17,650 RMB in early December. Acrylic high-shrinkage yarn 3D×64mm remained at 17,550 RMB, and acrylic semi-dulled top 3D stayed at 18,400 RMB. Prices for acrylic cashmere 28S and imitation rabbit hair remained stable at 23,300 and 24,700 RMB respectively.
While mainstream acrylic fiber prices are consolidating, acrylic yarn prices have remained relatively stable. The price of acrylic single yarn 21S has stayed at 20,900 RMB, and double yarn 21S is at 21,300 RMB. Acrylic tow prices have also seen minor fluctuations. For example, the sales price of 3D acrylic fiber in Taiwan increased from 1,785 USD to 1,795 USD, while internal disk prices dropped from 18,200 RMB to 17,800 RMB.
In the first half of December, acrylonitrile prices remained stable. The outer disk price was around 1,440 USD, and the inner plate stabilized at 12,850 RMB. Recently, domestic acrylic staple fiber prices have shown slight consolidation, with market fluctuations remaining minimal. The tow market has also seen minor swings, and the renminbi cargo market has seen light trading with limited stock availability. Most spinners are ordering directly from agents, and pre-Montreal bonded warehouse goods have been largely sold out. New goods are now being offered at slightly higher prices.
Overall, the acrylic wool tops market remains stable, with tepid downstream demand. Production is proceeding normally, with an increase in processing and shipping speeds remaining consistent. The acrylic yarn market has also shown slight consolidation, but no significant sales surge has occurred despite the drop in temperatures.
Looking ahead, it is expected that acrylic fiber and its related products will continue to exhibit a slight consolidation trend in the near future, with the price of acrylic fiber tow unlikely to fall sharply.
