The area was hit by heavy storms on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, causing significant rainfall that led to widespread flooding and road closures across many suburbs. Emergency services were quickly mobilized as residents and drivers found themselves trapped in rising waters. Fire departments from several nearby communities were called in to assist with rescues and evacuations.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department activated a MABAS Box Alarm, requesting swift water rescue teams and boats from divisions 1 and 4. In response, crews from Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Libertyville, Mount Prospect, and several other neighboring departments arrived with specialized equipment and personnel. The effort focused on St. Mary’s Parkway between Raupp Boulevard and Lincoln Terrace, where high water levels made it difficult for residents to leave their homes.
Larry Shapiro shared a series of images and a video (to be released soon) capturing the scene during the emergency. The photos show firefighters working under challenging conditions, using inflatable boats to reach stranded individuals and helping them to safety. One image highlights a resident being assisted from their home, while another shows a firefighter undergoing decontamination after the operation.
Several photos also depict the extent of the flooding in the neighborhood, with water rising to dangerous levels. A new Buffalo Grove Medtec ambulance was seen on site, ready to provide medical support if needed. As the rain continued sporadically throughout the day, crews remained on standby, ensuring that all those affected were safely evacuated.
