Zhejiang Shiyou Wood Industry Co., Ltd. has long been a leader in the solid wood flooring industry, but it also faced high complaints about product quality. To address this issue, the company made a bold decision to invest heavily in technological upgrades and quality control measures. Two years ago, the company recognized that consumer concerns about quality were growing. After consulting with experts from Nanjing Forestry University, they discovered that controlling the moisture content of each floor was essential to maintaining quality. However, the investment required was significant: upgrading drying kilns, importing advanced German equipment, increasing labor force by 60 people, and investing in new infrastructure. Despite the costs, Ni Fangrong, the company's chairman, made a firm decision. “If we don’t take our customers’ interests seriously, what are we even competing for?†he asked, emphasizing the importance of quality over short-term gains.
In collaboration with institutions like Nanjing Forestry University and South China Agricultural University, Zhejiang Shiyou established 33 automatic drying kilns with a total capacity of 60,000 cubic meters annually. These kilns can process up to 3.5 million square meters of solid wood flooring per year, ensuring every board is properly dried. This initiative not only improved product quality but also positioned the company as a major player in the industry.
Ni Fangrong personally tested the first batch of finished floors in his own 180-square-meter office, believing that true quality should be experienced firsthand. A self-made entrepreneur with limited formal education, he trusted in facts over promises. His hands-on approach helped build a culture of integrity and customer focus within the company.
Two years later, the results were clear: the company received no major complaints, and Ni Fangrong’s office floor became a symbol of confidence. He often told visitors, “If you find any problem with my floor, I’ll give you one for free.†Such bold claims shocked many, as few companies dared to make such a promise.
The investment paid off. By using precise moisture content testing, the company could now tailor the water content of their flooring to different regions—keeping it at 10%–14% in the south and 7%–11% in the north. This ensured better performance and customer satisfaction. In 2005, a leading American flooring operator, Zhuangsen Company, noticed that WorldFriends was the only Chinese company with strict moisture control. They partnered with the company on branding, technology, and marketing, further boosting its reputation.
As a result, Zhejiang Shiyou earned numerous awards, including “National Exemption,†“China’s Top Ten Wood Floor Brands,†and “Zhejiang Famous Brand.†Today, it ranks among the top wood flooring manufacturers in China, both in terms of production scale and technical capabilities. In 2005, the company’s economic performance was among the best in the industry, proving that quality and innovation always bring long-term success.
