At the 2005 World Drinks and Liquid Food Technology Expo (Drinktec), which took place from September 12th to 17th at the New International Exhibition Center in Munich, Germany, Sidel made a significant announcement. The company introduced its latest innovation—the SBO Compact™ blow molding machine. Designed for lower production volumes, this new entry-level model offers a capacity of under 7,000 bottles per hour and marks the first linear blow molding machine developed entirely in-house by Sidel.
Manufactured at Sidel’s facility in Malaysia, the SBO Compact™ series is tailored for small-scale operations that require cost-effective solutions. Featuring a linear design with 2 to 4 cavities, this machine provides a simplified structure compared to traditional rotary systems. Its compact size and reduced number of components make it ideal for businesses looking for efficiency without compromising on quality.
One of the standout features of the SBO Compactâ„¢ is its forward transmission system, which ensures the preform remains untouched during the blowing process. This innovation significantly enhances package quality and reduces the risk of defects. Like other Sidel machines, the SBO Compactâ„¢ relies on a purely mechanical design, ensuring reliability and consistent performance over time.
The modular and easily removable structure of the SBO Compactâ„¢ makes maintenance straightforward and efficient. The blow molding unit is positioned directly in front of the main body, contributing to the machine's flexibility and ease of operation. Additionally, the device uses Universal Shellâ„¢ molds, allowing for quick and seamless changes between different bottle shapes. Most custom parts are also interchangeable, further enhancing its adaptability.
With an overall machine utilization rate of 95% and a single-mode productivity of up to 1,600 bottles per hour, the SBO Compact™ delivers performance comparable to Sidel’s higher-end models. It maintains a scrap rate of less than 0.2%, meeting the company’s high-quality standards. The machine can be integrated with small filling systems, making it suitable for both carbonated and non-carbonated liquid food applications. This versatility positions the SBO Compact™ as a valuable addition to the market, especially for smaller producers seeking reliable and efficient packaging solutions.
