New engine for Elburn FPD

Martin Nowak recently came across the detail page for Elburn & Countryside FPD’s new fire apparatus. The vehicle, designated as Custom Top Mount Pumper #2030, is a state-of-the-art engine designed to meet the demanding needs of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District in Illinois. The truck features a Spartan Gladiator MFD 10” raised roof chassis, powered by a Cummins ISL9 diesel engine producing 450 horsepower. It's equipped with an Allison 3000 EVS automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and reliable performance on the job. The body is constructed from heavy-duty 3/16” aluminum, featuring ROM roll-up doors for easy access. The apparatus includes a 1000-gallon poly tank and a 30-gallon foam tank, along with a Hale QMAX125 pump capable of delivering 1250 GPM. The pump operator panel is conveniently located on top of the unit, enhancing visibility and control. With six 2½” discharges, two on the left, one on the right, and three at the rear, plus a 4” discharge on the right and a 3” discharge for the deck gun, this pumper is fully equipped for a variety of firefighting scenarios. The Akron Apollo Deck Gun and two 2½” gated suctions ensure flexibility during operations. The truck also includes one 2½” and two 1½” Mattydale preconnects, a Foam Pro 2002 single tank foam system, and a 21” front bumper extension with a 5” front suction and 1½” preconnect. Inside the cab, there are two EMS cabinets, while the wheel wells house three triple-bottle air compartments. Additional features include a Zico hydraulic ladder rack, Stokes basket storage, and a Pike Pole storage compartment. The Kussmaul 1200 battery conditioner/air compressor with auto eject, along with a Federal Q2B mechanical siren and a Whelen electronic siren, ensures optimal performance and safety. The vehicle is also equipped with two FRC Evolution 12-volt brow lights, two Whelen Pioneer 12-volt scene lights, and a Smart Power 5500-watt hydraulically driven generator. A 100-foot electric cord reel with a junction box is mounted on the right side, and four FRC Focus 120-volt recessed scene lights provide ample illumination. The truck is finished with a Chevron pattern striping on the rear and is built to handle heavy-duty use. With an overall height of 9’8”, a length of 32’8”, a 202” wheelbase, and a GVWR of 48,500 lbs, it's a powerful and versatile tool for the department.
