Recently, China’s first stainless steel chemical tanker, constructed by the CSIC Chuandong Shipyard, was officially delivered and put into service in Nanjing. This milestone marks a significant breakthrough in China's shipbuilding industry, as it fills a critical gap in the design and construction of high-tech, high-value stainless steel chemical tankers. The successful delivery represents not only a technological achievement but also a step forward in China's capability to compete globally in specialized shipbuilding.
Chemical tankers are widely regarded as some of the most complex and valuable vessels in the maritime industry. The ability to design and build these ships is a strong indicator of a company's advanced engineering skills and operational expertise. To complete this challenging project, the Chuandong Shipyard mobilized its entire workforce, overcoming numerous technical and managerial challenges. After years of dedicated effort, the ship was finally delivered on schedule and met all international standards.
The vessel was built according to the strict requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and has received widespread recognition from the China Classification Society, the ship owner, and the broader maritime community. This success has opened new doors for the plant, allowing it to expand into the European market. So far, the shipyard has secured orders for eight stainless steel chemical tankers, with twelve more set to be exported to Europe by the end of last year.
Looking ahead, the Chuandong Plant is working to establish itself as a leading center for specialized ship manufacturing along the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The facility aims to exceed a total output value of 2 billion yuan by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan, further solidifying its position in the global shipbuilding sector. (SASAC website)
