Delphi and Baidu Collaborate to Connect Vehicles to 95% Smartphones

January 27, 2015 Delphi Motors and Baidu signed a strategic agreement to integrate Baidu's new "Carlife" into Delphi's next-generation in-car infotainment platform.

Delphi's on-board infotainment platform was officially launched in the Chinese market in November 2014. It enables drivers to seamlessly connect in-vehicle systems to any type of mobile device at any time and any place, sharing navigation, media, text in real time, Telephone and other functions. The built-in natural speech recognition function can respond to all instructions, allowing drivers to use these functions while keeping their eyes on the road ahead and keeping their hands on the steering wheel.

Baidu CarLife is an App product platform, similar to the car OS, maps and voice are two of CarLife's core. CarLife can be compatible with Linux, QNX, Android, support Android and iOS, the official claim can cover more than 95% of smart phones.

In terms of functionality, CarLife, which incorporates Baidu Maps, can provide users with route planning, location queries, route estimates, and map data updates. At the same time also provides real-time parking space query, parking location records, electronic dog, real-time traffic conditions, indoor and outdoor seamless navigation, Handsfree man-machine dialogue and other services. Currently third-party applications can be freely assigned to CarLife.

Currently, Delphi's on-board infotainment platform integrates the latest automotive connectivity technologies including Carplay, Android Auto, and Mirror Link, and is scalable, expandable, and integrated with more on-board internet platforms. Through in-depth cooperation with Baidu “Carlife”, Delphi will be able to help users seamlessly connect vehicles and mobile devices, allowing users to use Chinese local service content more smoothly and anytime anywhere.
